History.

FounderHull & Machinery Surveys  was originally founded in Hawaii by Douglas G. Granger in 1994 having gained his experience over 30 years in the Marine Industry. He was apprenticed to the Engine Design Office of Barclay Curle Engineering Co. Ltd, Glasgow, Scotland, who sent him to The Royal Technical College (now know as Strathclyde University) where he studied Engineering. Serving in the British Merchant Navy, as a Superintendent attending New Construction of 60,000mt Geared and 70,000mt Gearless Bulk Carriers, and Self Propelled Semi-Submersible Drilling Rigs. Attending routine voyage and dry-dock repairs on Geared and Gearless Bulk Carriers, Tween Deck, Heavy Lift Ships, OBO's, Tankers and pure Car Carriers in various countries throughout the world.

Douglas joined The Salvage Association in 1979 and left in 1993 to join Anawati & Associates, as Principle Surveyor, where, in addition to H&M and P&I surveys, he was appointed the Non-Exclusive Surveyor to Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyds Register, and Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.

During his varied career Douglas has also been involved with passenger cruise ship design, construction and operations as a Technical Director, an Executive Vice President and President of Cruise Line and Management Companies. Crankshaft renewal Sulzer 8AL25-30 diesel engine

His extensive experience has involved attending surveys in almost all countries in Northern Europe, Scandinavia, The Mediterranean, The Caribbean, The Americas and the Archipelagos of Alaska, Hawaii, Samoa, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wake Island. In addition he has attended survey in the U.A.E., India, Viet Nam, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Australia and other countries to numerous to mention.

Over the years Douglas has been surveyor of fact involving substantial Hull and or Machinery particular average claims, salvage operations, concerning ship and/or cargo, general average, ship repairers negligence and or legal liability, loss of Hire/Use, P&I condition and entry, loss prevention warranted approvals, including lay-up and re-activation surveys and document reviews.

On various occasions Douglas has been called upon to testify as a Witness of Fact and as Expert Witness for Courts in Argentina, Brazil, France, French Polynesia, Switzerland, The Republic of Panama, The United States of America and The United Kingdom.
